Hamas's acceptance of a roadmap for relinquishing its weapons presents a critical opportunity for peace, according to an opinion piece in The Jerusalem Post. This development, framed by President Trump's 20-Point Plan and sustained by mediation from the US, Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye, requires Israel's reciprocal acceptance and verifiable implementation from both sides. The article emphasizes that disarmament must be a political and security process, not merely a ceremonial deadline, drawing parallels to successful transitions in Northern Ireland, Colombia, and Kosovo. Key elements for success include a robust verification mechanism to monitor weapons and illicit activities, and a reintegration process for rank-and-file Hamas members who renounce violence, providing them with viable alternatives to armed life.
