Hamas said to demand increased financial, diplomatic support from Iran

A Hamas delegation, led by Mohammed Ismail Darwish, met with senior Iranian officials on July 4, 2026, during the funeral of Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei. The delegation presented a list of demands for increased diplomatic and financial support from Tehran. Hamas requested Iran act as a “diplomatic safety net” during negotiations to end the Gaza war and publicly reject any disarmament or removal of Hamas from power. They also asked Iran to link Gaza to future negotiations with the United States, specifically demanding an end to “Israeli erosion operations in the Gaza Strip.” Additionally, Hamas sought increased financial and logistical aid to rebuild its military capabilities. According to the Kan public broadcaster, Iran agreed to all of Hamas's demands, pledging continued support until “complete victory” for the Palestinian cause.
