Hamas unable to conduct terror infiltration, repeat of October 7, IDF commander tells soldiers

Major-General Avi Bluth, Chief of IDF Central Command, stated on Wednesday that Hamas is no longer capable of executing a terror infiltration similar to October 7, 2023. He affirmed, "The threat of a terror infiltration like on October 7 is no longer possible," noting that over 60% of the Gaza Strip is under Israeli control, with a secure zone for border communities. Despite this, Bluth cautioned that Hamas remains a threat, retaining "residual capabilities" and its goal of destroying Israel. His remarks were made during a change-of-command ceremony for the 99th Division at Netiv Ha'asara. This follows reports that senior military officials briefed the Security Cabinet, indicating the IDF controls between 67% and 70% of Gaza, an expansion from an initial 53% target, with Prime Minister Netanyahu having directed an increase to 70% control.
