Hezbollah-tied individual arrested on suspicion of spying for Israel in Lebanon

A high-level Israeli agent with close ties to Hezbollah was arrested in Beirut last week, a judicial source told Agence France-Presse. The individual is accused of providing intelligence that led to the assassinations of four top Hezbollah security leaders, including Fuad Shukr in August 2024 and Ibrahim Aqil in September 2024. The alleged spy, born in southern Lebanon, reportedly made frequent trips to Iraq and Turkey to meet with individuals linked to Israeli intelligence. A Lebanese judicial source stated the detainee "is considered one of the most dangerous agents given his close ties to party officials and his ability, according to the initial investigations, to access sensitive information used in operations targeting prominent leaders." This arrest is part of a broader series of detentions of individuals suspected of spying for Israel.
