Houthis strike Marib again as UN warns Yemen nearing wider conflict -report
Yemen's army said early on Saturday it had responded against Houthi forces on several fronts along the lines of contact. The army did not give details of the operations or say when they took place.
Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthis launched ballistic missiles and drones at displacement camps and residential neighborhoods in Marib on Friday, killing two and wounding 14. The Houthis claimed they targeted Saudi-backed forces at Yemen's Sahn al-Jinn camp. This follows Thursday's strikes that killed at least 30 Yemeni government troops in Marib and Hadramawt provinces, for which the Houthis also claimed responsibility.
UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg warned that the latest attacks, coupled with renewed attacks on Red Sea shipping, have left Yemen at its greatest risk of renewed large-scale conflict since the UN-brokered truce in April 2022.
He urged all sides to exercise maximum restraint and engage in UN-led negotiations, noting the violence risks drawing Yemen deeper into a wider regional confrontation. The UN Security Council also expressed concern, urging the Houthis to refrain from escalation and encouraging dialogue.
