Human rights group and Jewish leaders say Israel is the guarantor of Jewish life across the Diaspora

The Porto Jewish Community B'nai B'rith Portugal and the International Observatory for Human Rights (OIDH) presented a formal tribute to the State of Israel, recognizing its role in defending Jewish culture and protecting Jewish communities globally. The ceremony, held at B'nai B'rith Portugal headquarters, honored Israel as a cornerstone of Jewish continuity and security. Israeli Ambassador to Portugal Oren Rozenblat accepted the tribute, emphasizing the inseparable connection between Israel and Jewish communities worldwide. Dr. Luis Andrade, president of OIDH, stated, "Without the State of Israel, Jewish communities would have had no reason to feel safe and even confidence to exist." Speakers highlighted Israel's commitment to the Diaspora since 1948, working to strengthen the resilience and security of Jewish communities amid rising antisemitism. The tribute underscored Israel's importance in safeguarding Jewish heritage and ensuring that "Jews will never again depend on the protection of others."
