Hundreds of foreign nationals still missing in Tibet after devastating Himalayan mudslide

A devastating mudslide in the Himalayan region has left 261 foreign nationals from 23 countries missing on the Tibetan side of the border with Nepal, according to Chinese officials. The highest number of missing foreigners are from Nepal (104), followed by India (49), Latvia (33), the U.S. (18), and Britain (15). The disaster, attributed to "glacier instability under the long-term effects of global warming," has killed 16 people in Tibet's Gyirong County and at least 675 in Nepal, with thousands more missing. China has mobilized over 2,100 rescue workers and allocated 220 million yuan ($32.7 million) for relief, also providing aid to Nepal. Both countries are collaborating on rescue efforts and strengthening cooperation in disaster prevention and climate change response, as the risk of further flooding persists.
