Hundreds of Michigan Jews pledge to vote for Abdul El-Sayed in open letter

More than 600 Jewish residents of Michigan have signed an open letter pledging to vote for Democratic US Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed. The coalition, "Michigan Jews for Democracy," includes prominent liberal and progressive Jewish figures such as former US Reps. Sander and Andy Levin. The letter acknowledges reservations among some signatories regarding El-Sayed's stance on Israel, stating, "Some of us have reservations: there are disagreements with El-Sayed on important issues, including aspects of his approach to Israel and the language used by some of his allies." El-Sayed has been working to improve relations with Jewish voters, including an unpublicized meeting with rabbis at Temple Israel after apologizing for earlier remarks. This letter contrasts with other Jewish open letters in the state, including one supporting his Republican opponent, Mike Rogers, and another urging El-Sayed to address Jewish "non-negotiables."
