This plan evolved into a focus on massive investment deals in the US. Experts like Professor Chuck Freilich called the demand "absurd," while Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi mocked it, asserting Iran as the Strait of Hormuz's guardian. Yoel Guzansky of the Institute for National Security Studies noted that Gulf states likely anticipated such transactional demands from Trump, a businessman. However, Kristian Alexander, a geopolitical analyst, suggested Gulf states would be uncomfortable with the relationship being reduced to mere transactions, as they already contribute significantly to regional security.
