IAEA exposes North Korea's secret nuclear enrichment facility, expansion of weapon infrastructure

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that North Korea has constructed a new uranium enrichment facility at its Yongbyon nuclear complex, capable of housing up to 28 centrifuge cascades. Additionally, an expanded annex at the Kangson enrichment site has begun operations. These findings, detailed in an August 28 report based on satellite imagery and open-source material, indicate a continuous expansion of North Korea's nuclear infrastructure across multiple locations. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi stated, "The ongoing operation of enrichment facilities at Kangson and Yongbyon and the reported further expansion of the DPRK's production of weapons-grade nuclear material is a cause for serious concern." North Korea, which has not permitted IAEA inspectors since 2009, rejects the agency's authority, asserting its irreversible status as a nuclear weapons state outside the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
