IDF detains Israelis attempting to cross Syrian border

The IDF detained several Israeli civilians in the Golan Heights on Monday for attempting to cross into Syrian territory, subsequently transferring them to the Israel Police. The military stated that illegal border crossings are dangerous and a “serious offense,” expecting law enforcement to prevent future incidents. This follows similar attempts by “HaBashan Pioneers” activists on Wednesday and Thursday, and on July 5, when approximately 100 activists crossed into the Syrian side of Mount Hermon. The activists accused the IDF of using “severe violence” and confiscating their phones during their detention, claiming their actions are a response to attempted attacks by Syrian terrorists against northern Israeli communities.
