IDF expected to make historic change for more inclusive combat soldier profile

The IDF is reportedly implementing a historic change to its combat soldier profiling system, lowering the minimum required profile score from 72 to 70. This adjustment aims to address a significant shortage of combat personnel, estimated at 7,000 fighters, exacerbated by casualties and increased operational demands since October 7, 2023. Under the new system, soldiers with minor medical conditions who previously would have been disqualified with a 64 profile will now receive a 70 profile, making them eligible for roles in artillery, air defense, and certain air force functions, though not infantry units like Golani or Givati. This controversial move is seen as a short-to-medium-term solution amid a lack of increased ultra-Orthodox enlistment. The IDF has not yet officially confirmed the decision.
