IDF urges Gaza residents to exchange old banknotes, prevent Hamas's financial exploitation

The IDF urged Gaza Strip residents on Monday to exchange old-issue banknotes for current ones to avoid financial exploitation by Hamas. IDF Arabic Spokesperson Lt.-Col. Ella Waweya stated on X/Twitter that "In the very near future, these banknotes will be worth nothing, and you will be left with nothing." She warned that Hamas is attempting to offload soon-to-be worthless old banknotes onto the Gazan population and even its own operatives. Waweya noted, "While some movement elements receive their salaries in old banknotes, the leaders hold onto the new ones." Residents were advised not to accept salaries or payments in old banknotes to prevent bearing the consequences of Hamas's financial losses.
