IDF warns budget delay will force reserve, intelligence cuts beginning in September

The IDF will implement severe, immediate measures starting in early September due to the Finance Ministry's delay in transferring funds, despite Prime Minister Netanyahu's instructions. These measures include a sharp reduction in reserve forces in the Northern and Southern Commands, but not in the West Bank due to heightened tensions. Additionally, there will be significant cuts to intelligence gathering, particularly affecting expensive third-circle operations. The IDF also faces challenges in preparing for potential escalations with Iran and other threats, as these require regular training and sufficient supplies. A senior security official warned, “If they do not transfer the budget now, the next government will have 145 days to pass a new budget.” The Finance Ministry is criticized for not honoring its commitment to transfer NIS 15 billion of the NIS 40 billion needed by the Defense Ministry and IDF over the next four months.
