In major escalation, Yemen’s Houthis target Saudi Arabia’s Abha airport

Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels launched missiles and drones at Saudi Arabia's Abha International Airport on Monday, in retaliation for Saudi airstrikes on Sanaa International Airport. No casualties were reported, but the attacks signify a major escalation not seen since a Saudi-led coalition struck Houthi-controlled areas several years ago. Houthi military spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree warned airlines against flying through Saudi airspace, stating these warnings should be taken "seriously until the blockade on Sanaa International Airport is lifted." The UN Security Council expressed concern about the risk of a wider escalation, with UN Assistant Secretary-General for political affairs Khaled Khiari stating, "Yemen and the wider region cannot afford another cycle of escalation."
