In new video, Mamdani acknowledges he doesn’t have authority to arrest Netanyahu

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani stated in a video Tuesday that his administration lacks the legal authority to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, despite an International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant. Mamdani had previously indicated he was exploring legal avenues for such an arrest. He called on the U.S. federal government, which he says does have the authority, to join the ICC and execute the warrant. The ICC issued an arrest warrant for Netanyahu in 2024, alleging war crimes, which Israel denies. Both former Presidents Trump and Biden have denounced the ICC warrant. Israel's ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, criticized Mamdani, stating, "You were elected to serve New Yorkers, not Hamas’ propaganda. Do your job!"
