In Rosh Hashanah message, Herzog calls for Jewish unity, pride

Israeli President Isaac Herzog issued a Rosh Hashanah message to Jewish communities worldwide, released Thursday in eight languages. Speaking from Jerusalem, Herzog emphasized Jewish unity, pride, and mutual respect. He likened the shofar's sound to both the pain of victims of terror and antisemitism, and a declaration of Jewish strength, stating, "The shofar proclaims: We are here, we are strong, we are Jews, and we are Israelis, and we are very proud." Herzog called for a commitment to action and tikkun olam, urging Jews, particularly Israelis ahead of upcoming elections, to listen to and respect one another. He concluded by quoting Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, noting the shofar "reminds us of our ultimate destination, telling us how far we still have to go," and wished for a year of blessing, harmony, and peace.
