Indonesia’s President Prabowo shifts tone, voices public support for Palestinians

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto expressed strong support for Palestinians at an Islamic gathering in eastern Indonesia, stating, "They are being massacred, bombed, and attacked continuously." This marks a shift from his previous stance in 2025, where he acknowledged the need to "recognize, respect and guarantee the security of Israel" for Middle East peace. Subianto called on Indonesia to support oppressed peoples globally. In February, he announced plans to deploy 8,000 Indonesian troops as a peacekeeping force in Gaza, though this deployment was indefinitely suspended in March due to regional escalation.
