Inside the IDF’s high-risk missions: Documenting rescue efforts around the world

IDF documentation soldiers, equipped with cameras and rifles, participate in high-risk missions ranging from combat zones to international disaster relief efforts. Recently, they joined "Reim Alliance" aid missions to Colombia and Venezuela following earthquakes, documenting rescue operations, engineering work, and human interactions. In Colombia, Sgt. H. and Sgt. Y. captured the search for 29 missing people and the solidarity of local residents, with Sgt. H. noting, "Our goal is to document the forces, but what struck me was the residents’ willingness to help." Sgt. First Class S. documented the Venezuelan mission, which involved assessing damage and developing rehabilitation plans, despite a lack of diplomatic relations. He observed "enormous support on the ground" and captured emotional moments, including a family learning their home was uninhabitable. These soldiers aim to provide operational documentation, boost morale, and offer a lasting testimony to the IDF's work, often shifting from combat zone documentation to humanitarian aid.
