Iran FM says he has never met new supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated he has never met or directly communicated with the Islamic Republic's new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, noting that contact with him is limited to a small circle of officials. Araghchi indicated that Khamenei's appointment was intended to signal policy continuity after his father's death, stating it sends "a very important message to the world that there would be no change in the regime's policies and ideals." He also mentioned that Iran had plans to close the Strait of Hormuz if the supreme leader were targeted by the United States, adding, "From the beginning, it had been agreed that, if the supreme leader had been a target, the strait would close."
