Iran says it captured US submarine drone in Strait of Hormuz

Iran's Revolutionary Guards announced on Tuesday that they had captured a US uncrewed submarine, identified as a Dive-LD, at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian state media quoted the Revolutionary Guards Navy stating, "We trapped one of the most modern, intelligent and unmanned submarines of the terrorist American army at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz." The Dive-LD is a 19-foot autonomous underwater vehicle designed for missions such as mine countermeasures and intelligence gathering. In response, a Pentagon spokesperson confirmed an underwater drone had "malfunctioned more than a day ago," adding that it was an older model that did not carry sensitive data or classified equipment. The US military is increasingly investing in unmanned naval systems for monitoring and intelligence.
