Iran war has led to Pentagon munitions shortfall, US Defense Department probe finds – report

A US Defense Department Inspector General report, covering February 28 to June 30, found that the conflict with Iran has led to a munitions shortfall and supply-chain issues for the Pentagon, costing approximately $33.4 billion. This includes $22.3 billion in expended munitions and $3.7 billion in equipment losses, not accounting for facility repairs or aircraft replacement. The report, mandated by Congress, also details the destruction of at least 30 large US drones and damage to various military aircraft, including four F-15E jet fighters and an F-35A. Furthermore, it confirms Iran targeted the US Navy's logistics hub in Bahrain and notes the displacement of over 20,000 US military and diplomatic personnel. Despite these findings, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth denied the reports, and President Donald Trump claimed the US is "producing more Exquisite and Elite Weapons than at any time in our History."
