Iranian air defense shoots down third US drone over Strait of Hormuz, regime claims – report
Earlier, the Qatari-owned Al Jazeera reported that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps had shot down a US MQ-1 drone over the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran's state broadcaster, IRIB, claimed on Tuesday that Iranian air defense shot down a US military MQ-1 drone over the Strait of Hormuz. This marks the third US drone Iran claims to have shot down on Tuesday, following an earlier report by Al Jazeera about a similar incident. Separately, Axios reported that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) attempted to steal a US Navy drone patrolling the Strait of Hormuz on Monday. US Central Command (CENTCOM) spokesperson Captain Tim Hawkins stated, "Iranian small boats recently attempted to take possession of a US unmanned surface vessel, but they were unsuccessful after CENTCOM forcefully responded." In response, the US destroyed two Iranian small boats, which Iranian media described as "fishing boats."
