Iranian foreign minister visits Doha amid missile strikes on Gulf states, release of US citizen

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi visited Doha on Wednesday to offer condolences for the death of former Qatari emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani. This visit occurred days after Iran fired missiles towards Qatari territory, reportedly targeting the Al Udeid US base, causing damage to American aircraft maintenance facilities and injuring three people, including a child, from falling shrapnel. International relations expert Dr. Arman Mahmoudian stated that the visit is part of Iran's effort to emphasize its narrative that it is not targeting Gulf states but rather US military assets, and to reassure regional governments. The IRGC issued a statement urging Kuwait and Jordan to "expel these child-killers and occupiers from your soil." Mahmoudian also suggested the visit could be an indirect communication with the United States, especially given the recent release of Iranian-American dual national Dena Karari, who was detained on espionage charges.
