Iranian leadership would accept if Pezeshkian resigned again, relative of Khamenei claims – report

A relative of Iran's Supreme Leader, Mohammad Bagher Kharrazi, claimed that Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei warned President Masoud Pezeshkian that his resignation would be accepted if submitted again. This follows reports that Pezeshkian previously threatened to resign due to exclusion from decision-making and if a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was rejected. Pezeshkian, however, denied plans to resign, stating, "I will not resign, and I will stand firm." Kharrazi also alleged that Khamenei intends to replace Supreme National Security Council chief Mohammad-Bagher Zolghadr with Mohsen Rezaei and that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi was told not to interfere in negotiations. These developments occur amid internal divides within the Iranian regime, particularly regarding control of the Strait of Hormuz, and suggest a potential hardening of the IRGC's influence over the civilian government.
