Iranian security personnel harassed, detained French embassy staff in Tehran, FM Barrot says

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot confirmed that two French embassy employees in Tehran were harassed and detained by Iranian security forces on Sunday. Both staff members were held and interrogated for several hours without cause, with one reportedly experiencing physical assault. Barrot stated that this incident was an “extremely serious and unacceptable violation” of diplomatic immunities. The employees have since returned to the French embassy and are scheduled to depart for France. Barrot informed the Iranian Foreign Minister that this event “cannot go without consequences.”
