Iran's Pezeshkian says unfair that Israel 'has' nuclear weapons while IAEA inspectors watch Tehran

During his address at the UN General Assembly, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian criticized the alleged Israeli possession of nuclear weapons while Iran's nuclear program is subject to IAEA inspections. He stated, "Atomic and nuclear weapons are in the hands of the 'Israeli regime,' but the [IAEA] inspectors are requested to come to Iran." Pezeshkian also accused Israel of killing over 70,000 civilians in Gaza and asserted that lasting peace in West Asia requires justice for Palestine. He further responded to US President Donald Trump's earlier remarks, denying Iran's involvement in terrorism and emphasizing Iran's defensive posture. In response, Israel's Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, denounced Pezeshkian's comments, calling Iran a regime that "spreads terror." Separately, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa insisted the Golan Heights would remain Syrian territory, a claim rejected by Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz, who declared the Golan an "inseparable part of the State of Israel." Romanian President Nicusor Dan also addressed the issue, demanding that Iran comply with the NPT and allow IAEA access.
