IRGC targeting bases to push US out of region before renewed Israel war, expert tells 'Post'

According to military historian Tom Cooper, the IRGC is targeting American bases and allies, excluding Israel, as part of a strategy to remove the US from the region before a potential renewed conflict with Israel. Iran launched retaliatory strikes on US-linked sites in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain after the US renewed strikes against IRGC targets. Cooper states that by focusing on regional neighbors, the IRGC aims to “knock out one opponent – the USA – out of this war” while preserving its firepower for future engagements with Israel. He added that this approach aligns with the IRGC's doctrine of asymmetric deterrence, a strategy they have been preparing for over two decades. Cooper also suggested that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is likely utilizing American military support while it is available, as Iran is reportedly forcing the US to deplete its strategic munitions stocks.
