Israel approves $434m for 34 new illegal West Bank settlements

Israel's security cabinet has approved a budget of $434 million (1.3 billion shekels) for the construction of 34 new settlements in the occupied West Bank. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich described the Tuesday decision as "historic" and a "day of celebration for Israel and settlements." These settlements are considered illegal under international law and have faced widespread condemnation, with some EU countries banning goods produced in them. The establishment of new outposts in the West Bank has reportedly accelerated recently, with a record number approved in April.
