Israel Police arrest Tax Authority employees under suspicion of accepting bribes

On Monday, Israel Police's Lahav 433 unit arrested four individuals, including current and former employees of the Israel Tax Authority (ITA), on suspicion of accepting bribes. The suspects are accused of reducing tax returns by approximately NIS 80 million in exchange for these bribes. Three of those arrested were former ITA employees, while one was actively working at the ITA's Petah Tikva office.

Separately, Lahav 433 also questioned Shas MK Haim Biton last week regarding alleged misconduct. Biton is suspected of using funds from the Ma'ayan HaChinuch HaTorani education network to finance a private Shas-affiliated newspaper seven years ago when he was the network's director-general. This case is expected to be transferred to the State Attorney's Office and the Attorney-General's Office for a decision on indictment.
