Israel Police officer indicted after harassing women through WhatsApp

An Israeli police officer, Samer Sheikh, 28, of Abu Snan, has been indicted in Haifa District Court on 15 counts related to years of sexual harassment, threats, and extortion. Serving in the Yarkon district's traffic division, Sheikh allegedly used confidential police databases via a police tablet to obtain women's personal details from 2022 until his arrest. He then reportedly used these details to contact 14 main complainants, their relatives, and friends through fake WhatsApp accounts, posing as different individuals.

• One key accusation involves secretly recording intimate video calls with a former partner and threatening to distribute them unless she participated in more sexually explicit calls.
• Another count alleges he threatened to publish intimate content of a woman unless she performed sexual acts during video calls, leading her to send explicit videos.
• Sheikh is also accused of sending unwanted sexual propositions, falsely telling relatives women appeared in pornographic videos, and threatening reputations if demands were not met.
• The indictment includes charges of extortion by threats, sexual harassment, impersonation, invasion of privacy, fraud, and breach of trust, stemming from his alleged abuse of police systems to facilitate these offenses.
