Israel publishes internal war crimes probe, in first since October 7 Massacre

The IDF's Military Advocate-General's Corps released its first war crimes report since October 7, detailing over 150 probes, including five major cases. This report, a response to global criticism, resulted in two criminal investigations, two disciplinary probes, and the closure of one case. Key findings include:

• World Central Kitchen Incident: The IDF accidentally killed seven aid workers on April 1, 2024. The probe found misidentification of WCK security guards as Hamas and criticized WCK for being unreachable. Disciplinary measures were recommended, not criminal charges, a decision made by IDF Chief Prosecutor Col. Eli Levertov due to a potential conflict of interest for Maj.-Gen. Itay Offir.
• Hind Rajab Killing: The January 29, 2024, killing of Hind Rajab and nine family members in Gaza City led to a criminal investigation due to gross negligence by COGAT officials in coordinating rescue efforts.
• Islamic Red Crescent Incident: On March 23, 2025, the IDF mistakenly killed 15 paramedics and UN-affiliated individuals in Tel Sultan. A criminal probe was ordered, and a brigade commander was censured, with a deputy commander fired.
• Doctors Without Borders (MSF) Incidents: Two separate incidents resulted in the mistaken killing of MSF officials. One in Khan Yunis on February 20, 2024, led to disciplinary measures. Another on November 18, 2023, was closed without criminal or disciplinary consequences as the deaths were from indirect fire.

IDF legal sources acknowledged the lengthy process but emphasized the importance of these decisions for international legal defense and continued military aid.
