Israel slams British foreign secretary over Gaza 'stories' comment

British Foreign Minister Ed Miliband faced criticism from the Israeli Foreign Ministry and former U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee after posting a video about "stories" of dire living conditions in Gaza, including blocked medicines and children dying. Miliband, a Labour politician, stated, "the stories that people were telling me of medicines being blocked, children dying while waiting for vital life-saving treatment."

A spokesperson for Israel's Foreign Ministry countered that "there are no restrictions whatsoever on the entry of medicines into the Gaza Strip, and that no medicines are being blocked."

The spokesperson added that Miliband, whose country is part of the International Gaza Support Center, is aware of these facts. This incident occurs amid strained UK-Israel relations under the Labour government, which has taken actions such as suspending arms licenses and recognizing a Palestinian state. Separately, a delegation from the Board of Deputies of British Jews met with Prime Minister Andy Burnham to express concerns about antisemitism and potential new sanctions on Israelis in Judea and Samaria, warning against measures that could harm the Jewish community and legitimize broader boycott movements.
