Israel targeted Syria airbase over planned Turkish troop, radar presence, source confirms to 'Post'

Israel targeted Syria's Abu al-Duhur military air base due to intelligence indicating Turkey planned to station troops, radar, and air defense systems there, sources confirmed to The Jerusalem Post. The IDF reportedly informed the US of this intelligence. Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that Israel issued a direct warning to senior Syrian officials prior to the strikes in an attempt to prevent the move. When the request went unanswered, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Katz authorized the IDF to conduct the strike, which successfully targeted the base's runway to prevent Turkish landings. Katz commented, "Erdogan was caught with his hand in the cookie jar and was forced to back down."
