The United States launched more airstrikes against Iran on Sunday in response to the killing of U.S. troops, while Iran fired missiles toward Jordan, raising concerns about the conflict widening into neighboring Israel. This marks a return to heightened tensions after a previous interim deal collapsed and shipping in the Strait of Hormuz stalled. The U.S. military stated its strikes targeted Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard in retaliation for Friday’s troop deaths in Jordan, hitting infrastructure like bridges and desalination plants. Iran, in turn, has targeted U.S.-allied countries across the Middle East, including Kuwait, Jordan, and Bahrain, which activated air defenses. Israel warned that Iranian missiles aimed at Jordan could cause fire to spill into Israeli territory, potentially triggering air-raid sirens in cities like Eilat for the first time in weeks. Jordan’s military confirmed shooting down several Iranian missiles, which caused no casualties or damage, and subsequently summoned Iran’s chargé d'affaires to protest.
