Israeli activists demand release of detained Gaza hospital director

Israeli activists rallied outside a US diplomatic compound in Jerusalem on Monday, demanding the release of Hussam Abu Safiya, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, who was detained by Israeli forces on December 27, 2024. The protest, organized by Free Jerusalem, also called for an end to Israel’s war on Gaza and the abuse of Palestinian detainees, urging Washington to stop arming Israel. Protesters held banners and chanted in support of Abu Safiya, with one demonstrator stating, “Our message is to stop the torture, stop the genocide and stop the war against the Palestinian people immediately.” Abu Safiya's lawyer, Nasser Odeh, appealed his detention under the Unlawful Combatant Law, citing concerns about torture, starvation, and inadequate medical care.
