Israeli company finds over one million online fraud cases, including fake hostage forum listings

Israeli cybersecurity company BrandShield identified over 1.5 million fraudulent online domains in the past year. This included 10,395 fake listings associated with El Al and 1,165 impersonating the Hostages and Missing Families Forum. Internationally, over 10,000 fake FIFA domains and 4,800 impersonating Elon Musk were found, alongside thousands linked to major brands like Omega SA, NIKE, Labubu, and Apple's iPhone. BrandShield CEO Yoav Keren stated, "Attackers go where public trust lies." The company demonstrated that AI and website-building tools allow the creation of sophisticated fake businesses in about five minutes, making fraud easier to scale. Keren noted, "AI is mainly changing the scale of the problem," allowing rapid replication of fraudulent sites.
