Israeli envoy launches UN task force to fight Jew-hatred including ‘right here within the walls’

Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, launched a U.N. Task Force on Combating Antisemitism on Wednesday, motivated by a global surge in Jew-hatred and a perceived gap between governmental declarations and concrete actions. The initiative, developed over several months, aims to identify threats, develop policies, and coordinate diplomatic responses. Representatives from dozens of countries, including the UK, Australia, Argentina, and Slovakia, attended the inaugural meeting.

Danon highlighted a 136% increase in Jew-hatred in seven countries with large Jewish populations since before October 7, emphasizing that antisemitism is an international problem requiring an international response, including "right here within the walls" of the UN. The task force will focus on developing measurable recommendations rather than symbolic statements. Speakers at the launch, including EU Coordinator on Combating Antisemitism Katharina von Schnurbein and Rabbi Mark Goldfeder, stressed the need for enforcement and accountability beyond mere condemnation.
