Israeli public broadcasting icon, journalist Prof. Gideon Kutz dies at age 78

Professor Gideon Kutz, a prominent Israeli journalist and academic, passed away in Paris on Sunday at the age of 78. Kutz was a recognizable voice in Israeli public broadcasting, serving for four decades as a correspondent for Voice of Israel and Channel 1 in Paris and Europe, and later for KAN. He covered significant global events including the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Yugoslav wars, and the Arab Spring. KAN News remembered him as “the ultimate envoy for public broadcasting in Europe.”

• Beyond journalism, Kutz was a historian specializing in the Hebrew and Jewish press in Europe, a professor at the University of Paris 8, and editor of the journal Kesher.
• He also served as president of the Foreign Press Association in France.
• Kutz is survived by his wife, Yaffa Eiron-Kutz, and their two children.
