Israeli traffic fatalities at 309 in 2026, down 3%, watchdog says

According to the Or Yarok Association for Safer Driving in Israel, 309 people have died in road accidents in Israel since the beginning of 2026, marking a 3% decrease compared to the same period last year. Eleven fatalities occurred in the past week. Or Yarok CEO Yaniv Yaakov stated, "More than 300 people killed in road accidents symbolize the major failure of the Transportation and Road Safety Ministry." He highlighted that the Sheinin Plan aimed to reduce annual fatalities to under 300 by 2015, indicating a decade-long failure to meet this target. Or Yarok urged the adoption of a comprehensive multi-year plan to prioritize road safety and consistently reduce fatalities.
