Israelis march to Gaza border demanding re-establishment of settlements

Thousands of Israelis, including settlers and right-wing activists, marched towards the Gaza border on Sunday, demanding the re-establishment of Israeli settlements in the territory. The demonstrators gathered near the border and walked towards the fence overlooking northern Gaza, where security forces prevented them from advancing further. Participants waved Israeli flags, calling for a return to the area from which Israel evacuated all settlements in 2005. Daniel Sellem, a participant, stated, “We are walking today to tell the government of Israel and show all the world that this land belongs to us and that Gaza really belongs to us and that we want to go back there.” Another participant, Yechiel Greenblum, described the event as “just the beginning” of a campaign to restore Israeli communities in Gaza, asserting that the 2005 withdrawal was temporary.
