'It means the world to me': Igor Levit returns to perform in Israel – interview

Renowned pianist Igor Levit, born in Russia and raised in Germany, will perform a solo recital in Tel Aviv on July 23, marking his first full Israeli recital since the war began. Levit, known for his political engagement, expressed strong solidarity with Israel after the October 7 attacks, launching the "Against Silence. Against antisemitism" campaign in Germany and establishing the NO SILENCE label under Sony Classical. He previously visited Israel in November 2023 to perform for wounded civilians and soldiers, stating, "It was out of pure desire to be with my people." All proceeds from his upcoming Tel Aviv concert will benefit the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra's Keynote Program for youth musical education, as he firmly stated, "I don't want a penny for my concerts in Israel."
