‘It’s escalating': IDF increasingly concerned by illegal crossings into Syria

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is increasingly concerned about Israeli activists illegally crossing into Syria from the Golan Heights, with nearly eight such entries reported in the past month. These incidents are escalating in volatility, with activists sometimes engaging in violence and refusing to evacuate. A security source stated, "Every time we see it escalating." The IDF emphasizes that these crossings endanger both the activists, who enter "enemy territory without helmets, without vests, without coordination," and IDF troops, who could mistake them for hostile elements. Such actions also divert IDF attention from critical operational activities focused on the Syrian side of the border. Once apprehended, activists are transferred to the Israel Police for criminal proceedings, with the IDF expecting law enforcement to act decisively to prevent future occurrences.
