Jayapal seems to advise student groups to invite antisemite Hasan Piker after University of Washington nixes official event with him

Following the University of Washington's cancellation of an official January event with antisemitic podcaster Hasan Piker, Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) encouraged student groups to invite him. Jayapal stated, "I encourage student groups who want to hear from Mr. Piker to work with the university to ensure that they can proceed," emphasizing free speech as a constitutional right. This contrasts with her 2019 stance that "Hate speech is not 'free speech.' It is harmful and threatening." State Rep. Mari Leavitt (D-Wash.) criticized the university's initial invitation, calling it "extremely poor judgment" and noting the omission of Piker's "dangerous rhetoric" from the event announcement. Leavitt believes Piker might still be invited by a student group, requiring the university to plan for security.
