JD Vance: Only US can protect Strait of Hormuz, prevent global energy crisis

US Vice President JD Vance stated on Thursday that Iran is responsible for rising fuel prices due to attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Vance criticized European allies for their inaction, asserting that the US is solely capable of protecting the strait and preventing a global energy crisis. He noted that despite Iranian actions, 15 million barrels of oil passed through the strait recently, attributing this to US efforts. Vance outlined two options for Washington: withdraw and face energy disruptions, or continue preventing Iranian attacks. He emphasized that the US will not negotiate with Iran unless they cease firing at commercial vessels, stating, "We're not talking to them, and we're not going to talk to them, unless they stop shooting at commercial vessels." Vance also mentioned past US actions, including the destruction of Iran's nuclear facilities and defense-industrial base, and downplayed the threat of Iranian cyberattacks against the US.
