Jeffries to Vote Against Israel Aid Proposal Dividing Democrats

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced he will vote against a Republican amendment proposed by Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) that seeks to cut U.S. funding to Israel. In a letter to colleagues on Tuesday, Jeffries (D-N.Y.) described the amendment as “overly broad,” stating it would restrict funds for humanitarian aid, peace-building, and anti-terror initiatives, in addition to military funding. While Democratic leadership is not dictating votes to members, this issue highlights a growing division within the party. The vote on this provision, which would be added to a bill funding national security and State Department programs for fiscal 2027, could occur this week if Speaker Mike Johnson resolves internal party disagreements.
