Jerusalem's L3 opens after years of delays, turning one light rail line into a network

Jerusalem's L3 light rail segment, part of the Green Line project, officially opened this week, connecting Haturim to Malha Mall. This 7-kilometer route adds 12 stations, enabling transfers between light rail lines for the first time. The launch, attended by Transportation Minister Miri Regev and Mayor Moshe Lion, marks a significant step towards a comprehensive public transit network, despite opening 10 years later than initially planned due to various delays. Mayor Moshe Lion stated, "Jerusalem is moving from a city that has a light rail to a city with a light rail network." The L3 is expected to transform the city's appearance, connect neighborhoods, and reduce traffic congestion. Future expansions include the L4 segment to Gilo by December and an extension to Mount Scopus by June 2027, with the Blue Line also under construction for a projected launch in 2029-2030.
