Jewish candidate for UN sec-gen falls to second place in new round of polling

Rebeca Grynspan, a Jewish economist and UN executive, dropped to second place in the second round of UN Security Council straw polling for the next secretary-general. Grynspan, whose parents were Holocaust refugees, received seven “encourage” and four “discourage” votes, a decline from the previous round. Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett of Guyana won this round with eight “encourage” votes. Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon stated, “After years of bias, failure and eroded trust, the organization needs a leader who is prepared to change the system,” emphasizing that Israel will evaluate candidates on their record against terrorism, antisemitism, and hypocrisy.
