Jewish Democrat Jeremy Moss defeats pro-Palestinian rival in Michigan primary

Michigan State Senator Jeremy Moss, a Jewish LGBTQ Democrat, secured the Democratic nomination for the state's 11th District House seat in Oakland County, a suburban Detroit region with a significant Jewish population. Moss won with 49.2% of the vote after 74% of ballots were counted, defeating pro-Palestinian attorney Aisha Farooqi, who received 32.9%.
“Thank you, Oakland County! It's the honor of a lifetime to be your Democratic nominee,” Moss posted on X/Twitter.
While not central to his campaign, Moss supports liberal pro-Israel positions, including a two-state solution, stating in 2024 that “The overwhelming majority of American Jewish voters believe that both Israel has a right to defend itself from terrorism & Palestinians have a right to self-determination in a peace-seeking state.” He also addressed what he perceived as antisemitic attacks linking him to AIPAC, despite receiving minimal pro-Israel group funding.
