Jewish Hungarian chess legend Judit Polgar declined Prime Minister Peter Magyar's nomination for president on Monday. Magyar, who recently ended Viktor Orban's party rule, had proposed Polgar for the largely ceremonial role until a new constitution is passed. Polgar, recognized as the greatest-ever female chess player, stated on Facebook, "I do not feel enough strength within me to take on the historic responsibility of uniting a divided nation, so I am unable to accept the request." Magyar's plan includes electing a new president and drafting a new constitution to dismantle former premier Orban's power structures.
